Tips for Finding That Just Right Florida Home

by Marisol Davila 09/23/2018

If you're considering buying a first or second home in Florida, a little research and analysis can go a long way.

As is the case with any real estate search, it's vitally important to know exactly what you're looking for and where to find it.

A good real estate agent can be invaluable when it comes to matching your needs and price range with the available inventory.

In addition to starting out with a realistic budget, it's also vital to develop a detailed list of everything you want and need. Experienced homeowners generally have a clear idea of what they need, in terms of square footage, number of bathrooms, and parking space. If you're planning on inviting family and friends to stay with you during the year, a guest bedroom or two would be an essential feature. Other desirable features to keep in mind when looking at different Florida homes include plenty of storage space, proximity to shopping, and privacy. While everyone has different requirements when it comes to privacy, you'd be hard pressed to find a house buyer who's indifferent about it. Privacy from neighbors and passing cars is a key aspect of finding a home in which you'll feel comfortable.

Although some people might disagree with this, a screened-in porch is an essential feature of a Florida home. Patios are nice, too, but a screened-in porch enables you to enjoy the fresh air and warm temperatures even when it's raining. The screens also help keep out insects and other uninvited visitors! If a Florida home you're considering does not have a screened-in porch, there's always the option of having one built after you move in. If you do go that route, one thing to seriously consider is to have a ceiling fan installed on the porch. While you might assume that the screens would provide enough air circulation for year-round comfort, that's not always the case!

Other that the warm weather and sunshine, one of the great aspects of living in Florida is proximity to the Atlantic ocean. If you love sunbathing, boating, and swimming in the surf, you'll have access to dozens, if not hundreds of beaches, lakes, and harbors. Although all the major cities in Florida have their own unique characteristics and attractions, most metro areas offer a rich variety of recreational choices, entertainment, and shopping. Whether you're an avid golfer, bird watcher, or beachcomber, it won't be difficult to incorporate your favorite pastimes into your daily routine.

While retirement communities abound in Florida, there are also many areas that cater to growing families, young couples, and everyone in between! A seasoned real estate agent will be able to provide the guidance, insights, and helpful suggestions you need to find the Florida neighborhood that matches your age, lifestyle, and requirements.
